Palisades workers rally to support new food bank

June 1, 2006
Palisades employees and contractors recently rallied to support a newly formed food bank in the plant’s host community of Covert, Mich., even as they were in the midst of a refueling and maintenance outage. Palisades reached 100 percent power last Friday (May 26) following completion of the outage earlier in May.

Covert officials appealed to area businesses and organizations for assistance to the new food bank in late April, seeking non-perishable food items, laundry products and personal hygiene articles for individuals and families in need. From April 26 to May 4, Palisades employees and contractors on site for the outage brought hundreds of items for the food shelf to the plant.

The donations were enough to fill the bed and cab of a pickup truck driven by Covert Township Clerk Dennis Palgen, who said he was overwhelmed and “extremely grateful for the outpouring of kindness” from Palisades workers.

Plant management thanked all those who contributed to the food shelf, noting that their generosity displayed the leadership attribute of Site Excellence, which calls for "earning the respect of employees, peers, the community, shareholders and the industry."
